Frequently asked questions

How are review intervals decided?

An open algorithm called FSRS works out the next date for each word on its own. Words you keep getting right come back less and less often; ones you keep missing come back sooner. Today's quiz holds only the words that are due today.

Do Cram and Fill-in-the-blank affect my schedule?

No. Both are practice, so neither moves a word's next review date. They do count towards the day's streak.

What keeps my streak going?

The daily quiz, a cram session, a fill-in-the-blank round, or adding a new word — any one of the four fills the day in.

When does a new day start?

At midnight in the timezone set under More → Timezone; the daily quiz and the streak both follow that line. Signed out, the app uses whatever timezone the device is in.

Can I use Daizy without signing in?

Yes. Start without an account and your words and progress stay on this device. Sign in and you can pick up on the web and see the same progress on every device.

Will I lose my words on a new phone?

Not if you are signed in — everything follows the account. If you are keeping words on this device only, use More → Export a backup file first, then restore it on the new phone.

Can a word have more than one meaning?

Write one per line. Start typing on the blank line at the bottom and another appears beneath it. Nothing is split on commas, so whatever sits on one line counts as a single meaning.

Do I have to add an example?

It is optional. Only words with an example show up in Fill-in-the-blank, though — and the words you keep missing are exactly the ones that stick better with a sentence around them.

Does deleting a word delete its review history?

Yes. Deleting a word also deletes its review history and cannot be undone.

How do I turn on reminders?

Pick a time under More → Notifications and the reminder arrives daily at that time. Signed in, it only arrives on days you actually have words to review.

I have another question.

Send it from More → Feedback. A question that is not answered here is the next one that will be.
